Léon Bonnat was a French painter. He painted Victor Hugo’s famous portrait and also taught the likes of John Singer Sargent, George Braque and Edvard Munch at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. His gift of part of his oeuvre and his art collection, a fine collection of Old master drawings including works by Leonardo, Michelangelo, Ingres and Géricault, forms the core of the collection of the Musée Bonnat in Bayonne.
