Jospeh Caraud was a French history and genre painter who travelled extensively throughout France, Italy and Algeria. He is best known for his theatrical paintings of the life of queen Marie Antoinette and colourful and idyllic Italian interiors. Another copy of this image is in the collection of Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco.
