Alfred-Désiré Lanson was a French sculptor. He was awarded the Prix de Rome and resided at the Villa Médicis in Rome. He notably designed the groups of marble sea horses adorning the fountains of the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte. Another copy of this image is in the collection of the LA County Museum of Art.
