Judith Rothchild
* 1950 in Boston
Ruth Fainlight’s five original short poems are inspired by a series of six mezzotints of plants by Judith Rothchild. Each folio, introduced by a vignette of a begonia leaf, is comprised of the poem, the relevant mezzotint and the translation into French. The green wrappers, slipcases and boxes have a screen printed motif of two arum leaves. Numbered and signed by the author and the artist. Edition of 50. Size: 27 x 20 cm.
The eleven mezzotints are printed by the artist on Hahnemühle paper. The letterpress was printed by Mark Lintott and the slipcases and clamshell boxes are by Claude Vallin. Translations by Michèle Duclos.
The deluxe edition of twelve copies (1/50 to 12/50) is presented in clamshell boxes and include one of the poems in the hand of the author and an additional dry point. Every one of these prints is unique as the plate was reworked after each print. No. 1 is the lightest and No. 12 darkest. The regular edition, 13/50 to 50/50, is presented in slip-cases.
