In a 1904 list of his works, under "Drawings, 1902", de Nerée tot Babberich lists a pencil drawing "De schrik. Schets. 1902" ["The Fright. Sketch. 1902"]. This might reference this work, which had since been inked, or a preliminary sketch thereof.
