Judith Rothchild
Zooscopies
Judith Rothchild (b.1950) became captivated by the zoological collection at the University of Montpellier, in particular by the haphazard organisation of the animals in the reserve collection.
On invitation from the university, and over the period of a year, between June 2018 and May 2019, Rothchild paid regular visits to the reserve collection and completed more than 20 large scale drawings (112 x 74 cm).
Playing on the ambiguous nature of these animals – suspended between life and death, she created scenes full of poetry and humour.
