Licht bricht über die Finsternis/ Light Breaks Over the Darkness c.1920s

William Wauer

* 1866 in Oberwiesenthal † 1962 in Berlin

Silver gelatin print. Size of sheet: 11.4 x 15.5 cm.

Colour was skillfully applied by Wauer on the original oil on canvas painting in order to capture the dramatic moment when light breaks over the darkness. A mixture of orange and yellow was used to depict the warmth of sunlight whilst a colder colour palatte was used for the sky. This painting appeared on the market in 2002 and 2001.
