Christian Boltanski
Two Sets of Prints
Sculptor, photographer and conceptual artist Christian Boltanski (b. 1944, Paris) uses his work to engage with and invite reflection on topics related to memory, loss, childhood and death. In the 1970s, he turned to photography as his preferred method for exploring different forms of remembering and states of consciousness. Inspired by everyday sources such as postcards, newspapers, police registries and family photo albums, the artist selects photographs to create sets or installations of mementos that merge quotidian life with art.
The Centre Pompidou, Paris has recently held a major retrospective of Boltanksi’s works, bringing together examples of his installation, sculpture, photographic and video work.
