Size of sheet: 33 x 25 cm. Size of plate: 23.4 x 17.3 cm. Ferdinand de Lesseps was the French diplomat and businessman. He served as consul of France in Barcelona and Cairo but is best known for presiding over the development of the Suez Canal and later oversaw the first unsuccessful attempt to build the Panama Canal.
