Jean Dupuis was a French adventurer, trader and explorer. He began his commercial career in Egypt before moving to China in 1860. His trading journeys led him to discover previously unexplored areas of southern China and he was associated with the unsuccessful effort to establish French influence in northern Vietnam in 1873.
