Adolphe Thiers was a French politician and a leading historian of the French Revolution. He served as Prime Minister for a few years in the first half of the nineteenth century. A vocal opponent of Napoléon III, he served as President of France in 1871-73 following the emperor’s fall, during which time he suppressed the Paris Commune.
