Feathers. 2002.
Judith Rothchild
* 1950 in Boston
The eight original poems by Ruth Fainlight are inspired by a suite of eight mezzotints by Judith Rothchild. The texts, about birds, feathers, emotions and memories, respond to the images. Numbered and signed by the author and the artist. Edition of 30. Size: 40 x 26.7 cm.
The mezzotints and the embossments on the title page and table of contents were printed by the artist on Hahnemülhe paper. The hand-set letterpress, in Vendôme Romain, was printed by Mark Lintott on a Stanhope press. The slipcases and clamshell boxes are by Claude Vallin and Mark Lintott. The wrappers of Canevas paper, by Thibierge & Comar, were screen-printed by the artist.
The first eight copies, the deluxe edition (1/30 to 8/30), are presented in clamshell boxes. They contain one of the original copper plates, an additional mezzotint and a poem in the hand of the author. Numbers 9/30 to 30/30 are presented in slipcases. Copies 26 to 29 are hors commerce. The copy numbered 30/30 is reserved for the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
