Finlay Abbott Ellwood
Ideas Unsaid, then Forgotten
Aged just 21, Finlay has created a rich body of observational multimedia drawings. His experiences in the city and nature and his encounters with literature and found objects inform his expressive and immediate works on paper we present here.
Finlay currently studies at the Slade School of Art. He grew up in St Ives, immersed in the rish history of Cornish art and artists, and in particular Roger Hilton. Hilton influences Finaly's freedom of expression. Amidst his loose, energetic handling of his media are acute observations of topography, and wry depictions of daily life. He boldly uses text to construct his picture plane.
This experiential tone speaks to the viewer, playfully engaging with both the artist's and viewer's memory and perception.
