Preparatory drawing for the frontispiece of ‘Ritter Ungestüm’ by Alfred Walter Heymel, first published in 1900 by Insel Verlag publishers. Vogeler designed the frontispiece and coloured endpapers. The book is considered one of the inaugural publications for Insel Verlag (Sarkowski 728).1

Vogeler was a close friend of the author and designed the interior of his apartment in Leopoldstraße, Munich, the same year as the publication of the book. He had begun working for Insel Verlag a year earlier, in 1899.
