Second known plate (Act. I. Sc. III) from the series of seven prints illustrating Goethe's drama in five acts Goetz de Berlichingen, written in 1773. Delacroix started the series in 1836 and worked on it until 1843 eventually completing seven designs, but never published the lithographs as a suite.
