This rich and fresh drawing is executed in a technique similar to five drawings by Novelli in the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Paris representing virtues (inv. 2412-2416). It might be related to a series of studies for an allegorical interior decoration, where the blindfolded satiresque mascaron could represent the allegory of the sense of sight. Other similar sheets illustrating personifications of Winds and Seasons appeared on the market.

With the other study by Novelli £ 16,500

As a pair £ 16,500
