"In "Insects of the Apocalypse" series, which consists of sixteen sheets, the drawings are relatively small, but the horrid, phantasmagoric insects I've invented to fill them, are enormous. And they fly, hover, or crawl over various idyllic landscapes -- if you look carefully, you'll always find a landscape at the very bottom of each sheet -- a village, a mountain range, a seashore with waves crashing against the cliffs. In many of the landscapes, there is also, barely visible, a thin, fading horizon line, leading a melancholy eye to some dreamy distance..." Leon Steinmetz
