Fine and dark impression with a beautiful plate tone and wide margins.

German-born artist Carmiencke went to Dresden in 1831, where he trained with the Norwegian landscape painter Johann Christian Dahl, considered the founder of the Norwegian Golden Age. Carmiencke enjoyed a successful career in Denmark, and was appointed court painter to Christian VIII, who commissioned him with many works. In 1851, the First Schleswig War caused him to emigrate to America. He settled in Brooklyn, New York, where he was well received and became a successful teacher.
