Kilburn Underground station is a ten-minute walk from Kossoff's home and studio in the London suburb of Willesden.

Booking Hall relates to an earlier painting 'Booking Hall, Kilburn Underground No.2, 1977' and to a 1987 painting 'Booking Hall, Kilburn Underground'. The latter, kept at Tate, was displayed in the main room of the British Pavilion as Kossoff had been chosen to represent Britain at the 1995 Venice Biennale.
