Christofano di Michele Martini

* 1462 in Florence † 1535 in Florence

Engraving. Watermark: Fleur de Lys and five pointed crown. Size of sheet: 30.5 x 28.4 cm.

Literature: Bartsch XIII, p. 406, 25; Hind I, p. 205, 29; Catalogue Washington 1973, No. 120.

A very good impression from the 17th century. In excellent, fresh condition with partly fine margins around the plates. One of the great examples of Italian Renaissance prints. This motif enjoyed great popularity and the plate was used up to around 1800. It is now kept in the Collection of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum in London (B.M. 1888-1-17-13). Earlier, clear impressions like this one including scratches, before the plate suffered process, are rare today.
